It's a weird night for television, to be honest. When the biggest new release is a Netflix movie starring Lili Reinhart in a Sliding Doors update, the pickings are thin. Perhaps your best bet is a new episode of Reservation Dogs or Big Brother, or just catching up on shows you're behind on. It's actually pretty mellow through the weekend, too, as everyone gears up for the fall TV season. I'll use the time to watch The Old Man, which slipped through the cracks during the early busy months of summer. On the night of her college graduation, Betty — er, Natalie Reinhart — hooks up with a friend and sees her life split Sliding Doors style down two different paths. In one timeline, she goes to to pursue her art career; in the other, she's pregnant and returns to her hometown to raise a family. THE BEST SHOWS AND MOVIES TO WATCH THIS WEEK Tatiana Maslany, She-Hulk MarvelShe-Hulk Attorney at LawSeries premieres Thursday, Aug. 18 on Disney+ If there was an award for funniest TV show title, She-Hulk Attorney at Law would win in a landslide. The latest Disney+ Marvel series stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, who gains the powers of the Hulk after an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner Mark Ruffalo. But she doesn't lose her passion for the pursuit of justice! Despite its use of CGI that looks straight out of an early Sims game, this show is persisting. At the very least, it has a solid supporting cast in Tim Roth and Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Charlie Cox will reprise his role as fellow attorney-at-law Matt Murdock, also known by his vigilante alter ego Daredevil. -Allison Picurro [Trailer] Eve Hewson, Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Sarah Greene, Bad Sisters Apple TV+Bad Sisters Series premieres Friday, Aug. 19 on Apple TV+ The great Sharon Horgan Catastrophe created and stars in this Irish series that's something like Big Little Lies as a dark comedy. It's about five sisters — played by Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, and Eve Hewson — one of whom is married to a truly awful man played by Claes Bang, who, when the show begins, is dead. The show unfolds over two timelines, and there's a mystery in each one What happened to him and how exactly the sisters were involved in his death in the past, and whether they'll be able to keep the secret in the present. It's thrillingly biting in Horgan's signature way. -Liam Mathews [Trailer] Shakira Barrera, Martha Plimpton, and Garret Dillahunt, Sprung Dennis Mong/Amazon FreeveeSprung Series premieres Friday. Aug. 19 on Amazon Freevee This series from creator Greg Garcia My Name Is Earl, Raising Hope follows a trio of non-violent convicts, Jack Garret Dillahunt, Gloria Shakira Barrera, and Rooster Phillip Garcia as they're suddenly and unexpectedly released from prison at the beginning of the pandemic. With nowhere else to go and the world shut down, they move in with Rooster's mother Barb Martha Plimpton, a small-time thief. Jack doesn't want to go back to jail, but he doesn't have anywhere else to go, so he agrees to be part of Barb's crew on the condition that they don't get caught and only steal from bad people — sp Barb draws up a list of local d-bags. It's a lot like Garcia's previous shows — it has a list of names like My Name Is Earl, and Dillahunt and Plimpton starred on Raising Hope —but adds something novel. As far as I can tell, Sprung is the first period piece about the early days of the pandemic, and it has some really funny jokes looking back at all the things we didn't know and didn't know we were in for in those crazy first couple of months. -Liam Mathews [Trailer] Nathan Fielder, The Rehearsal HBOThe RehearsalSeason finale Friday, Aug. 19 at 11/10c on HBO and HBO Max Nathan Fielder's reality comedy/high art project The Rehearsal brings its six-episode season to a close with this episode, titled "Pretend Daddy," and we have no idea what's going to happen. Will Nathan finally understand how his need for control is stifling his ability to form meaningful relationships with other people? Will Angela decide if she's ready to be a mother after completing the absurdist parenting simulator the show created for her? Will Nathan reveal that everything we've seen has been a rehearsal for an even bigger and crazier project? Anything is possible, which is the beauty of The Rehearsal — and life itself. -Liam Mathews [Trailer] Annie Murphy and Mary Hollis Inboden, Kevin Can F**k Himself Robert Clark/Stalwart Productions/AMCKevin Can F**k HimselfSeason 2 premieres Monday, Aug. 22 at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+ In its second and final season, Kevin Can F**k Himself is going full Gone Girl. After Neil Alex Bonifer found out about Allison Annie Murphy and Patty's Mary Hollis Inboden plan to kill Kevin Eric Petersen at the end of Season 1, Allison devises a new escape plan from the domestic hell she's trapped in faking her own death, and leaving no trace behind when she disappears. In a fun, cheeky bit of casting, Erinn Hayes, whose abrupt firing from Kevin Can Wait famously served as inspiration for Kevin Can F**k Himself, will appear in this season. -Allison Picurro [Trailer] Tom Allen and John Parr, Chad and JT Go Deep NetflixChad and JT Go DeepSeries premiere Tuesday on Netflix, bro Dudes, your given rights to party are in grave danger, which is why Chad and JT are SoCal's most important social activists. The internet prankster duo who went viral for defending for your party rights at city council meetings gets their own show on Netflix in which they get canceled in a misunderstanding and must fight to clear their name. It's a mix of scripted comedy and man-on-the-street good-natured pranking that exposes people for who they are. It's humor born out the school of Nathan Fielder, though they don't quite reach the heights of the master. -Tim Surette [Trailer] RECENTLY RELEASED Manti Te'o, Untold The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist NetflixUntold The Girlfriend Who Didn't ExistNow on Netflix In 2013, Manti Te'o went from top college football player and Heisman Trophy hopeful to laughingstock of the country when it was revealed that his purported internet girlfriend didn't exist. Te'o got catfished when catfishing was still a new thing, and the media was relentless about it. Netflix's deep dive sports docuseries talks to Te'o, his catfisher, the reporters who broke the story, and goes deep into the story, its impacts, and the truths. It ends up being a redemption story for Te'o, and a stern shaming for all of us who made him a joke. -Tim Surette [Trailer] This Is Us spoilers follow. The end is approaching for This Is Us and we're not quite ready to say goodbye to the Pearson clan just yet. Seeing as season five ended in typically jaw-dropping fashion, hitting fans with yet another major twist at the end of its finale, there are some big questions that now need answering. With season six confirmed to be the show's last, we can surely expect the final run of episodes to be the most dramatic and tear-jerking season five was hit by Covid-related delays season six will air completely uninterrupted. Will The Big Three – Kevin, Kate and Randall – finally learn to grapple with their traumas and build towards a more positive future? Here's what we know so far about the final season. NBC Universal This Is Us season 6 release date When will it air? This Is Us launched its final episodes on Tuesday, January 4 on NBC in the US. Season six airs on Prime Video and Disney+ in the UK on Thursdays, following the US breaks away from the traditional launch time of September/October, having been the crown jewel in the broadcaster's autumn while fans have had to wait longer than usual for the episodes thanks, Covid this new slot does come with the added benefits of there being no midseason break. NBC "We know that saying goodbye to the Pearsons is going to be hard enough. So what we wanted to do is honour the fans and get them as close to an uninterrupted run as we could," NBC network chairman Frances Berwick explained via Deadline. The final season will run for 18 episodes. This Is Us season 6 spoilers What's the plot? NBC Universal In a shock to absolutely no one, prepare for some tears in the final season – with company executives apparently reduced to floods after being told what would happen. This Is Us absolutely revels in blindsiding its fans – usually by tricking us into thinking we're watching one time period, when really we're getting a glimpse of another – but the season-five finale really did drop one of the biggest shocks of the series the beginning of the episode, we saw Kevin seemingly preparing his vows for his marriage to Madison. However, as it was later revealed, their wedding didn't actually go we were really watching was a four-year flash-forward, in which Kevin was preparing to officiate for his sister Kate's wedding. But it's not Toby she's marrying, it's her frosty music teacher boss Phillip. Cue audible how these events transpired will no doubt take up a significant chunk of the final season, Chris Sullivan, who plays Toby, said he had known about the eventual split for a while, with the couple's widening "communication gap" playing a huge role. NBCNBC Universal As we also saw in the flash-forward, Nicky is now married to a mystery lady and things between Kevin and Madison, who share twins together, seem to be pretty amicable. Are they still together in some capacity or have they simply learned to be friends? Then, of course, there's the matter of the Pearson matriarch's dwindling health. It was back in season four that we got a glimpse of an ailing Rebecca, seemingly on her deathbed at a distant point in the future. We know that her dementia will worsen in the coming years – to the point that she doesn't even recognise her own son Randall – and we're fully expecting those scenes to be a difficult creator Dan Fogelman has indeed teased some heart-wrenching moments for the final season, telling EW "There's one storyline that's one of our stakes in the ground for season six that when I speak about it, my eyes start welling up with tears. And I'm not a crier.""The show spans a lot of time and, especially where we're going deeper into our final season, you're going to see the completion of a lot of journeys," Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter. "Whether that means life and death or romantically. Because we spend more time than just exists linearly, we'll hopefully be able to complete all of our stories and journeys, however long that takes in the calendar time in the show. But in terms of who is going to live or die, I can’t really say that part.""There's a lot of closure, but there's also new beginnings," Chrissy Metz said via Collider. "There will be a lot of things tied up – beginnings and endings, maybe of people's lives and relationships. And ego and pride. [...] Because we are seeing so much take place, whether it's with Rebecca or a relationship such as Kate and Toby's. Also, there's already heightened emotion because it's the last season, so I definitely think it will be the most emotional. But also there's going to be a lot of contentment.""The reference point I give are those sprawling family novels that some people really dig into," Fogelman continued. "I'm one of them, my entire life. I'm actually reading one now that I'm really enjoying, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. The ones that have always spoken to me are the ones where you feel like you've gone on a real journey with the characters who are intrinsically linked, often by family. You close the book and feel like you've been told a complete story."Along with that, my hope would be that there's a positive and optimistic message for the show, in trying to put something positive into the world at a difficult time that would hopefully make people feel something. And, hopefully, the thing they feel isn't just sadness or ugliness, but it's also kind of beautiful and quiet. That's my hope for the end of it. Whether we get there or not won’t be for us to judge. But, that's the goal."So, it sounds like there'll also be plenty of happiness to go around, with Kevin actor Justin Hartley revealing that the Pearsons will end up in "a really good place". "From what I gather from what we've shot, it seems they're in a really good place," he told TV Insider. "They all seem to be dancing around like happy idiots. Hopefully, they're all in a really good place. They'll have drama getting there, I'm sure." NBC Universal This Is Us season 6 cast Who will be in it?Naturally, the whole Pearson family are back for the final season, including Milo Ventimiglia Jack, Mandy Moore Rebecca, Sterling K Brown Randall, Chrissy Metz Kate and Justin Hartley Kevin. As we know, Jack died in a tragic house fire many years ago, but that won't stop him playing a pivotal part in these last remaining episodes, by way of Thompson Madison, Susan Watson Beth, Chris Sullivan Toby, Jon Huertas Miguel, Eris Baker Tess, Faithe Herman Annie and Lyric Ross Deja will all undoubtedly feature, we can also expect to see a lot more of Chris Geere as Phillip and Kate's romance Is Us season 6 trailer When can we watch it? The official final season trailer dropped in November, and saw matriarch Rebecca's health in rapid decline as her dementia takes even more of a hold. Set to a rendition of 'Time After Time' by Chrissy Metz's Kate, Rebecca is heard warning "I'm losing my memory. Sometimes I think about what my very last memory will be before the candle goes out."We also got a retrospective look through the years of the Pearson family, as the series prepares to wind to a close. Toward the end of the flashbacks, we see Miguel Jon Huertas putting the cake with 41 on the table while Kevin and Kate blow out the candles. We're not ready to say goodbye to the Pearson family. NBC's hit drama This Is Us is coming to an end with its current sixth season, which premiered on Jan. 4, and to say we're emotional would be an understatement. The show — starring Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley — is known for its shocking twists and tear-jerking moments, and it seems like they're saving the best for last. During the show's season 6 premiere at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Dec. 14, the cast and creator Dan Fogelman teased what lies in store for this final chapter. "The first couple of episodes are really just setting everybody up for a bit of a ride," Fogelman told PEOPLE. "It's kind of like the part of the rollercoaster where you're just ticking upwards. There are no big, gigantic or crazy things happening at the end of the first episode. This isn't a season about a build. We're kind of setting the table for an ending, and it takes a moment to build that up." For more on the final season of This Is Us, listen below to our daily podcast on PEOPLE Every Day. As you tune into season 6, keep reading for everything else that lies in store. Who's in the cast for This Is Us season 6? Ron Batzdorff/NBC The core cast, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, and Jon Huertas, return for the final season. In November 2021, it was reported that the original seven series regulars received $2 million cash bonuses for the final season after seeking a pay raise from NBC and 20th Television. Jon Huertas, who became a series regular in season 2, also received a $1 million bonus. Additionally, Griffin Dune, Caitlin Thompson, Eris Baker, Faithe Herman, Lyric Ross, Asante Blackk, and Chris Geere all make appearances this season. Maarten de Boer/NBCUniversal The trailer also teases we'll be seeing more of Kate and Toby's son Jack in the future, played by actor Blake Stadnik. Meanwhile, Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays Sophie, previously teased a potential return, to Entertainment Weekly. "One of our major issues is, historically, [her other show] Virgin River and This Is Us shoot exactly at the same time every year," she told the publication. "So, I have meant to go back [to This Is Us] and then haven't been able to go back. It's been a logistical issue regardless of character development, so we'll see what happens for the last season." It's worth noting that when PEOPLE asked Hartley how he would describe his character arc this season during the premiere, he teased, "[I] hope he finds true love. He deserves it." Maybe we'll be getting a Kevin and Sophie reunion in the flash-forward? How is the cast involved behind the camera for This Is Us season 6? Ron Batzdorff/NBC In addition to starring, many of the cast members got the opportunity to write and direct for the final season. Moore will make her TV directorial debut this season on a Kate-centric episode, while Ventimiglia will direct another episode, after making his TV directorial debut in season 4. During the premiere, Ventimiglia praised his onscreen wife, calling Moore "a natural" at directing. "She's great. She's wonderful," he told PEOPLE. "She knows exactly what she's doing [and] what she wants." Sullivan and Huertas each directed an episode in the final season as well. As for writing, Metz co-wrote the episode that Moore will direct. Watson also co-wrote an episode that dives even deeper into her character Beth. "I got to kind of write Beth's final opus, so it's really beautiful," Watson told PEOPLE about the episode titled "Our Little Island Girl Part Two." How many episodes will there be in This Is Us season 6? Ron Batzdorff/NBC The final season will have a total of 18 episodes. During the premiere, the cast teased there would be another trilogy of episodes that focuses on the Big Three as well as a Jack-centric episode about his mother's death. "To have an episode that is purely the discovery of Jack, it's been nice to revisit," Ventimiglia told PEOPLE. "It was really painful to shoot. It was about his mother's passing and dealing with that, the distance and the conversations he wished he had. Jack is the guy who's always trying to be the strength of the family. What happens when that strength wears thin and it breaks? ... It was tough to shoot but also was very satisfying as an actor." When will This Is Us season 6 premiere? Ron Batzdorff/NBC Breaking away from the show's usual fall release, the sixth and final season premiered on Jan. 4, 2022, on NBC. Additionally, the final season will air uninterrupted as there will be no midseason break. "We know that saying goodbye to the Pearsons is going to be hard enough. So what we wanted to do is honor the fans and get them as close to an uninterrupted run as we could, which is only possible in midseason," Frances Berwick, Chairman, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, told Deadline. When will the This Is Us season 6 finale air? Chrissy Metz on This Is Us. nbc During NBC's Scripted Press Day panel, the cast confirmed that the series finale will air on NBC on May 24. "It's gonna deliver. It's truly, truly going to deliver," Ventimiglia said about the show's finale episode. How will This Is Us end? Ron Batzdorff/NBC Since most of the cast knows how the series ends, they have offered a lot of cryptic quotes about the finale over the years, calling it "sad," "beautiful," "hopeful," and "exciting," among many other things. Though the show's creator Dan Fogelman has stayed tight-lipped about what exactly lies in store for the Pearson family, he did tease that the finale will wrap up all the show's biggest mysteries in a nice way. "My hope is that by the end of the series, there is no stone left unturned," he told EW. "You would have nothing left to ask me about spoilers. You might want to call me and say, 'I don't like what happened to such-and-such. I don't like who such-and-such wound up with.' But you won't be going, 'Who?' If we've done that, I feel like we've done our job and we've made the choices that we thought were best for the characters and for the story. But by the end of it, I don't think there will be any of these timeline mysteries left. Hopefully it will set us up for a very beautiful and simple ending to the entire venture." Will there be a This Is Us spinoff? Ron Batzdorff/NBC At the moment, there are currently no plans for a This Is Us spinoff, but creator Dan Fogelman isn't completely closing the door on the idea either. "Honestly, more than the commerce of it all, we're not all ready to end making this show," he previously told EW. "But I've been pretty firm on creatively just knowing that it would be really hard to go past where we've gone this year, and it would be hard to keep the level where we've all tried to keep the level. So it definitely feels like the end and the time to go. Who the hell knows? My wife is very excited to go turn on the Sex and the City show all this time later. So I'm not speaking about the far future — or even the near future — though there's certainly no plans." Metz has also offered the idea of having a spinoff that doesn't directly follow the Pearson family. "It might be a cool spinoff to have a family that was somehow affiliated with the family — the Pearsons — but not necessarily directly related," Metz told Entertainment Tonight. "And maybe we could sort of come in and out. As they came in and out of our story, we could come in and out of their story. That would be kind of cool to have another family." Perhaps a spinoff could offer more backstory on one of the show's minor characters like Malik or Madison. Anything is possible!
